SUMMARY:PSRC (Paddlesport Safety & Rescue)
DESCRIPTION:This multi-craft course provides the BCAB Award that is the pre-requisite safety training for Paddlesports Instructor and Paddlesports Leader. \n\n\n\nThis is a mainly practical training course with no assessment. Your course will support you in keeping yourself and others safe whilst on the water\, providing you with the tools and concepts to consider solutions to common issues on the water.  \n\n\n\nEvery participant receives individual feedback at the end of the course. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCourse Content \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClothing and Equipment \n\n\n\n\nCraft overview\, safety considerations and features\n\n\n\nClothing and equipment worn\n\n\n\nAdditional safety equipment\n\n\n\nSafety frameworks\n\n\n\n\nSheltered water environment and weather  \n\n\n\n\nSafety principles\n\n\n\nRescue protocols\n\n\n\nCalling for help\n\n\n\nContact and Towing rescues\n\n\n\n\nAssisting swimmers \n\n\n\n\nTowing systems\n\n\n\nRecovering equipment\n\n\n\nSelf-rescues\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSelf-rescues \n\n\n\n\nAssisted self-rescues\n\n\n\nDeep water rescues\n\n\n\n\nVarious craft from preferred craft \n\n\n\n\nTechniques for getting swimmer out of the water\n\n\n\nMultiple rescues\n\n\n\nUnconscious / unresponsive rescues\n\n\n\nEntrapped rescues\n\n\n\n\nReflections from the course \n\n\n\n\nReflections on own learning and areas for development\n\n\n\nSkills checklists\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFind out more on the British Canoeing Awarding Body website: https://britishcanoeingawarding.org.uk/paddlesport-safety-and-rescue/ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDo I meet the pre requisites? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nParticipants need to either hold the Paddle Explore Award or equivalent ability\, due to the paddling environment and the craft control required to complete the course. \n\n\n\nWhile the awarding body does not set a lower age limit for this course\, we are not licensed to deliver adventure training to under 18s unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCourse & certification fees\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis course is available at no cost to members of Hampton Canoe Club.
